Our Guide To Replacement Doors

Be honest with yourself when asking the question “Is my front door capable of surviving another cold and wet winter?” The slightest bit of doubt in your mind is usually a sign that it’s time to replace the door for a brand new model.

Doing otherwise could prove a bad decision as the weather might start getting in (that’s if it isn’t already) and the weathered appearance of the door could spoil the entire look of your home.

Here’s a short description of each available door solution to help you with your door-buying decision…

UPVC Doors

In case you were wondering, UPVC stands for unplasticised polyvinyl chloride, a material produced for the first time in 1935.

UPVC has been used in window and door manufacture in the UK for a quarter of a century and offers excellent thermal insulating properties. It is also a weather-resistant material and can therefore take everything the weather throws at it without losing its shape or performance standards. Cleaning a UPVC door solely extends to wiping the frame with a wet cloth to remove any dirt and the coloured finish won’t need retouching.

Aluminium Doors

If you’ve ever come across aluminium you will know how amazingly tough it is. Despite its strength, aluminium is very lightweight and can be moulded relatively easily which is why an aluminium door has such a slender frame and can encompass so much glass.

Every aluminium door has a powder-coated colour and it’s this powder-coating process that makes the colour so rich and deep. Abiding by this colouring method also prevents the door finish fading away over time.

Composite Doors

You could very easily confuse a composite door for a timber door as they look so alike. An explanation for this is due to wood being one of the many materials used to create the thick composite frame. It also has a GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) skin.

A composite door frame is much thicker than your ordinary door frame and this thickness vastly reduces the possibility of anyone managing to force their way through it when it’s locked shut. Colour-wise, you can finish a composite door in pretty much any colour you can think of.

Timber Doors

While traditional timber doors have a look all of their own their condition rapidly diminishes once the weather get a hold of them.

There remains a fondness for the authentic appearance of timber though and we have capitalised on that by creating a specially engineered set of modern timber doors. Several types of wood have been utilised in their design but these doors won’t be subject to the usual problems experienced with old timber doors e.g. rotting, warping, discolouration.
