A Simple Guide To Measuring Your Windows And Doors

Since lockdown started, we have still received an encouraging number of window and door orders. We’re extremely pleased that so many homeowners in the region are refusing to let the current situation interfere with their plans to have new windows and doors fitted.

Georgian Style Windows

Frustratingly for Orion, we are not at this present time able to visit the homes of customers wanting new windows and doors to measure up ahead of our fantastic fitters installing them. Fingers crossed, this situation will soon change.

But it’s only a minor stumbling block, which we can get over by kindly asking our fine customers to measure their windows and doors for us.

It’s not that difficult to do and we make it clear that we don’t need the measurements to be 100% accurate – just a rough estimation is enough for now.

Here’s how it’s best done, along with guidance on how to get the perfect new windows and doors.

Windows

  • To measure the height and width of your windows, go brick-to-brick with your tape measure and record the measurements in millimetres, centimetres or inches.
  • After accepting our quote and at a safe time, one of our fitters will visit to come and take precise measurements.
  • Decide if you would prefer the window material to be either UPVC or aluminium.
  • Decide on the sort of window design and coloured finish you would like.
  • Take a photograph of one of your existing windows if you would be happy with a like-for-like replacement.
  • Seen a window design elsewhere that you love? Share an exterior shot of it with us.

Doors

  • To measure the height of your door, go brick to-brick with your tape measure, and for the width, go brick-to-floor, recording the measurements in metric or imperial units.
  • After accepting our quote and at a safe time, one of our fitters will visit to come and take precise measurements.
  • We need to know if you want your new door to open inwards or outwards.
  • We also need to know if the door is hinged on the left or right when you look at it from the outside.
  • Decide if you would prefer the door material to be UPVC, composite, aluminium or timber.
  • Take a photograph of your existing door if you would be happy with a like-for-like replacement.
